My friend [info]chaoticthief showed me this video the other night because I am a huge fan of the show "Ghost Hunters." Jay and Grant...these guys are supposed to be the cream of the crop in the paranormal investigation field. They have such a unique approach to things: go in trying to DISPROVE a haunting, rather than prove that a place is haunted. Jay was always saying "...they don't perform on cue," in reference to ghosts/hauntings.

They were so noble about it too. If children were involved they bumped the case up to top priority and got right on it. They constantly offered counsel and solace to frightened and confused people. They made such massive inroads on obtaining actual credibility in the field to the point where skeptics couldn't just dismiss them as a bunch of quacks and weirdos. They were simply too professional, too scientific about it all.

Then they go and do this. I would really really like to not believe it, but the evidence is too damning. Watching this really wounded me, and disappointed me in such a grave manner that I can't even really fathom it myself.

Sure, this sounds really silly to be this distraught over a television show but if you'd had the experiences I've had, if you'd had as many people calling you crazy and staring at you like you're a lunatic as I have, you would understand where I was coming from. It was like FINALLY someone was validating all the weird things that had happened in my life. They were opening minds, ushering in the beginning of a new way of viewing life and death. But no. The world and its greedy, grasping hands wins again.

Way to make credibility yours guys. Congratulations on destroying all the work that you had heretofore accomplished. I applaud you on your epic and monumental failure.

Um, I'm too much of a pansy to watch any kind of paranormal show. D: Mind telling me what happened?

X3 *hugs tight* Nothing scary at all happened here. This is just a broken up video to show how Grant's jacket wasn't pulled down in the back by anything other than good old human trickery.

Basically, the way he keeps his right hand so close to his side AT ALL TIMES, never takes off the coat, and then after Jay even checks out the coat he pats Grant on the back and the collar moves again. :/ EXTREMELY disappointing.

Yeah, pretty much. :/

I then went and watched the new episode this Wednesday just past, and as usual I didn't hear half the voices they did and all I could think was: are you just making that up?

But there is still stuff that happens that you can't deny.

Well...

With this its hard to say he wasnt pulling a fast one but maybe he was doing a personal test of the viewers. Seeing if there was anyone smart enough out there to catch a debunking that he would pull a stunt to see if A one can get away with and B is there somone who is really that good at debunking.

Another possibuility is they probably knew the action wouldnt be that great in a long night live show and put in bits o mystery into the game. In their regular programs they edit the boring parts and show the highlights so maybe he made his own highlights.

Bottom line is I feel 99% of the stuff they encounter is authentic, but maybe 1% is creative liscense for them.

Guess we will have to sit back and see how the chips fall.

I really want to believe that he wasn't pulling a fast one, but the evidence speaks for itself in this case.

Don't get me wrong, I KNOW there is a lot of genuine stuff that they capture on video. But just the fact that they would do something like this really rocks my faith in them. It just destroys all of their credibility. That's what I'm so upset about.

I actually have Grant as a friend on my myspace and he actually posted a blog about this video, here it is;

People are now making videos calling TAPS fakers. It is to be expected, I guess. I just wish that people would give us constructive criticism and help us figure out what happened rather than just take the easy way out by saying we fake stuff.

All I can say is that whoever is making these videos is running on a LOT of assumptions.

I wasn't scrolling through random audio files. I had just heard a voice and was trying to find it on a digital recorder in the cold, then the batteries died. It is a common paranormal event. I showed several people that the batteries died.

The voice was heard through the earpieces because everyone can hear what the filmed team is doing through them. Not to mention that they replayed it through the ear pieces for everyone to hear. Now, how could we and our cameraman have heard it through our ears if it came from the equipment? Also, if it came through the earpieces then, how come we don't hear EVERYTHING that is said through those things? We only hear one voice?

We all do NOT enjoy filming the live show because there are people constantly telling you what to do and where to go etc. That is what Steve and Kristyn fell pray to on TV. If they cut back to a team that was walking in a place with no signal, then you wouldn't be able to see or hear them. Therefore, whenever they come to a team after a break, they want to check and make sure that the team is in a spot with signal. Also, if there is something they want you to address then they tell you during a break.

As far as the sound guy, we all knew he was coming. People aren't just wandering around. He just didn't get there fast enough to deal with the audio issue before we were back from the break.

As for my collar, I really don't know what that is about. There was an earpiece cable running down my sweater that I talked about in the reveal. That is the only thing that could have caused any type of tugging movement. But it was attached to my sweater NOT my jacket and the cable ran to the opposite side of my jacket from the "alleged" hand in an awkward spot. And even then, I had tried pulling on it and it didn't affect my jacket at all. Why did it move when Jay slapped my back? We recreated this event and it did it that way every time. Not sure why. I just don't see how I could have faked it. I understand it looks awkward to people. It doesn't to me because I was just being me.

This stuff just drives me crazy, I really wish people wouldn't assume we are faking stuff. We are instantly accused before we even are given a chance to really dissect it and try to figure it out. Honestly, no offense, but if the show was canceled tomorrow I would be sad yes, but mostly I would just breathe a huge sigh of relief because I would be able to go back to my quiet life with my family.

I guess it is just TAPS's word against the word of people who hate our show and the field of paranormal investigation.

Thanks for this man. <3 I just want to see video evidence of their re-creations of the collar pull now. Just to back up what he's saying there. The guy who made the original video, the evidence was so damning because it was so thorough.

Evidence please!!! I want to keep believing in these guys! D:

...yeah. There are reasons for keeping one's mouth shut about these things *sigh* I've never followed this show, though, so I can't say how the rest of it would've struck me.

Eh, I understand why she told me. She knows my insistence on honesty.

Truly, if you have any interest in the paranormal, this is the show to check out. They are so scrupulous in the way they do things that you cannot deny the evidence they do manage to get. But things like this throw absolutely everything into question.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm going to continue to watch the show, because some of the things they've encountered are undeniably real, but I will be much more discerning with the "personal experiences."

I'm trying to not let this make me any more bitter and cynical than I already am. >_>
